Litter Free Lunches

At Elm Park School we show responsibility by caring for our school environment. As part of our enviro programme we are encouraged to bring Litter Free Lunches to school. We visited Miss Donnell in Room 7 to show her our lunch boxes and talk about ways that we can pack our lunches without single use packaging.

Football

This term Room 5 were lucky enough to attend the football clinics held at Elm Park School. We learned some new and exciting games and skills. We also got to play our very own game of football in the giant, inflatable pitch.

We had an amazing time!

Museum

Room 5 have been learning that people are different as part of our inquiry topic, 'Ko Aotearoa Ahau".

We went on a school trip to the Auckland Museum to look at the displays from different countries. We also learned about how people travelled to New Zealand in their waka. We made 'ei and performed a unique cultural dance.

We were also lucky enough to have some extra time for exploring the Museum.

New Zealand Landscapes

On Thursday 5th September the Year 1 students went on a trip to North Head, Devonport. This term we have been learning about New Zealand landscapes and the natural and man-made features found within them. We got to explore the natural hills, rocks and beaches as well as the man-made tunnels, paths and trenches. We had a great time seeing and learning about new things!

Here is Cody on the bus as we drove over the Auckland, Harbour Bridge - a man-made feature.

Making Music

Elm Park School is lucky enough to have the best music teacher, Mrs D. This term we have been learning how to keep a beat and play some percussion instruments. All the children in Room 5 LOVE music!

Here is Cody playing his maraca.

Junior School Assembly Performance

In Week 2 Room 5 were the presenters at the Junior School Assembly. We were lucky enough to wear traditional Tongan tapa and lei as we preformed a Tongan song called "Malimali Mai".

Portrait Art and Pirate Writing

This term Mrs Scott taught me how to draw a self portrait. First I sketched my portrait in my sketch book. After Mrs August enlarged this, I traced over the lines in vivid. Then I used water dissolvable pastels to add some colour and make my face look real. I added a pirate hat, some stitches and an eye patch to turn myself into a pirate!

"I am a pirate. I catch fish".

Water Skills

This term we have been using the school swimming pool as part of our Water Skills unit. I am learning to be safe and confident in and around the water.
